about

Song Background
'Elise' was written about Alex's grandmother who had past away. Elise (the Norwegian lady in the photo) was a wonderful artist with a successful career, an incredible life and still is a very special person in the family. Whilst on tour in 2017 the song was written because the band were staying at her flat; an incredible flat filled with original art and history. The song is a conversation with Elise written as authentically as it could have happened - 'Elise, can you hear me? there's something I wish to discuss. She said she was floating in a world decorated in art'.
Audience response
We first performed the song at our Leeds Conservatoire concert 2017. It was received as the standout song seeing audience members approaching us with praise. Since, this has been a regular occurrence on tours and is our most highly demanded recording, which is why it is finally being released.
Inside the song
The song features a subtle melancholic blend of styles; plaintive singer songwriter elements, hints of flamenco and British folk guitar, cajon and haunting violin with a strong classical undercurrent conveyed by the piano. All aspects of this song really define The Tenmours sound and the emotional power we try to communicate in our songs.

lyrics

Elise, can you hear me?
There’s something I wish to discuss
She said she was floating in world decorated in art
I still feel you on my shoulder
Like I did when you were by my side
I want to thank you
For the words you left behind

(Instrumental)

You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love
You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love

(Instrumental)

Elise, can you hear me?
I’m stuck in a world of hate
The plan is to show them
How I feel deep down inside
She said don’t you worry
About the things that you don’t understand
And then the story ends
And now it starts again

(Instrumental)

You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love
You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love

Elise, can you hear me?
There’s something I wish to discuss
She said she was floating in world decorated in art
I still feel you on my shoulder
Like I did when you were by my side

You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love
You’re here in my mind
In the way that we all shine
You blessed us all with love
